The AKG K182 headphones are almost exclusively made of plastic, but don’t let that put you off. The construction remains incredibly robust, holding up well to rigorous recording sessions. The omission of too many metal components is a wise choice here, bringing benefits to the user.
For example, things feel snug right out of the box, with no pinching induced by metal joints and gussets, while the 250 gram lightweight design means it sits on your head without giving itself away.
In addition to all this, the headphones have a 3 cm thick folding area. Speaking of the earcups, the velor cushions that adorn them are certainly comfortable texture-wise, but they can get a bit warm after an hour or two of use.
The solid construction of these headphones is slightly stretchy, while passive noise reduction is enabled whether you opt for single-ear listening or two-ear audio immersion.
With its folding mechanism and 3D pivot function, these headphones would work well on the road, slipping discreetly and safely into gig bags or suitcases.
Typical of all AKG studio headphones, the K182 is conventionally wired via a mini XLR plug that attaches to the left headphone.
Also included is a three meter long cable, with strain relief at both ends. If you prefer to use a coiled cable, you can purchase a compatible one later, or consider swapping the supplied one for the component of your choice.
A real bonus is the fact that you can re-order many of AKG’s integral parts as individual components wear out over time, allowing you to keep your headphones for longer and enjoy a healthy lifespan.
